The Godly Fitness Man: Cody Nash

“As a man it’s not only important to have physical strength BUT mental and spiritual strength is needed as well.”

It is wonderful, rather incredible to meet a good man who is respectful, encouraging, and of course God fearing. In a world where men of color sometimes are not always celebrated or projected in a positive lighting, I chose to take a different approach. The man I am featuring on this blog is Cody Nash founder of A1 Fitness. Cody is my church brother turned trainer who is incredibly gifted. In 2016 when I knew it was time to get back on track with my fitness, I had one brief conversation with Cody about it and he said, “I got you sis, let’s make it happen.” And that is the type of person he is, he finds a way to make sure you stay committed to what you say you want to accomplish.
From being pushed weekly closer towards my fitness goal, I also noticed that Cody was growing closer to God as well too. It is one thing to hear people talk about their relationship with God, meanwhile there’s no fruit to back it. Now it’s another thing to hear a person talk about it and see the changes they are making to grow as well. So as Cody provided me with the workouts I was able to keep him lifted in prayer and discuss various Godly topics with him. It was different to see Cody’s approach of fitness and God in one package because I had never met a trainer who incorporated the two like he did.
That made me realize the importance of surrounding myself around people who are STRONGER in the areas I want to grow in. I mean that physically, mentally, spiritually, financially, etc. If you don’t find yourself progressing and growing, it may be time to reevaluate your circle and the company you keep. I did not specifically say I want a Christian trainer BUT in this case I am glad I do have one. It shows me that a man can do what he is suppose to do to help you progress without being a pervert, inappropriate or disrespectful. I believe women need more examples of these type of men in their lives or connected to them. Please continue reading to learn more about Cody and what he does.

“Training designed for you, to accomplish your life and fitness goals.”

What got you started in fitness? Why is it important to you?
My love for fitness started when I was in my junior year of college. I was playing football at the time and a couple of my friends asked me to help them lose weight and tone their bodies. At the time I knew nothing about training nor was I interested in doing it, but I wanted to help. Eventually my friends started seeing results and started eating more healthier than before. I had no idea I had the power to change someone’s life in a positive way, the way I had done. Fitness is important to me because I honestly see our bodies as a temple and it’s the only one we will ever have. It’s only right to treat it well by giving it the proper nutrients and exercise.
Do you have a relationship with God? How would you explain it? Does your spiritual life help contribute to your fitness?
Yes I do have a relationship with God. I look at God as my father. He’s a voice in my ear to push me when I feel down and need motivation. He’s the one that keeps me focused on my purpose and puts people in my life to remind me there’s bigger than just my own aspirations. It’s about changing peoples lives for the better.
What is the most fulfilling about working with others?
The most for filling thing about working with others is knowing that I’m changing their lives. Helping them to live a life with less hospital visit for health issues and helping them meet goals that they never thought they could ever meet.
Who inspires you to keep going?
My inspiration comes from my family. All my mother and sister wants for me is to be great and do what I love to do. They’ve had my back ever since I told them I wanted to be a trainer.
Do you have a support system?
My support system is my family and one of my closest friends Brandon. I’ll call him anytime I’m in a rut or need ideas about branding and marketing. He’s always there to give me something new.
Do you feel that you are operating in purpose by what you’re doing?
I most definitely feel like I’m operating in purpose. Everything I’ve done up until this point has feel right and I’m impacting the right people at the right times in their life.
How do you hope to impact others through what you do?
I hope to impact people by making it a habit to stay healthy and being mindful of what I consume. Even when I’m not there I want my clients to be disciplined and make healthy living a lifestyle .
Where do you hope you your brand goes?
I honestly think that when I put positive and authentic energy out into the world, the right people will come. I don’t think my brand has any limitations at all. I hope it reaches everyone.
Why is it important as a man to take care of your health and build a brand?
As a man it’s  not only important to have physical strength BUT mental and spiritual strength is needed as well. Working out goes so much deeper than trying to look extremely good externally. If a man feels good inside as well and has a good conscience, I believe he’ll be able to lead his household with God being his guide. Having a brand as a man is important because you have to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything.
What advice would you give men who want to start their own business? Should they partner with God through the process?
Starting your business without God will not work. You cannot lean unto your own understanding. You need help to guide you through the process. My advice to men would be to pray every day and stay persistent. Know what is and is not important in your life and plan accordingly.
