Building To Last

The Fall season brings changes all around, from the slight chill weather making an appearance, the sun taking its sweet time to come out in the mornings, to the vibrant colors of the leaves… and of course cannot forget pumpkin spice lattes. The Fall is not just for fashion, cooler days, or a hot drink but it is also an important time for builders.
Recently I was curious to learn more about home building. To my surprise I learned that the FALL season is the prime building season for homes. The Fall weather makes for perfect conditions for construction. The season brings about a softer soil, cool and dry weather, which is best for excavating. I am sure builders can build throughout the year but the fact there is primary season to operate at their best, also means there must be preparation made ahead of time and a plan when the season comes to build. Going off that knowledge I thought about the timing of building out a plan in our lives.
Many of times we want to build, we want to arrive to what it is we are asking for, but we do not prepare. We have not done our research to assess the best season to start building, we do not have the right tools,  and some times there is no clear plan on how to build. Being in the right season to build without the proper tools, preparation, and no plan can lead to missed opportunities and blaming. Being in the wrong season to build with the proper tools, preparation and a plan can lead to frustration, destruction or even a complete abandonment of the project. It is important as a we build, we trust the process of timing and not move to quickly nor too slowly. Before time we should be preparing, when time comes build, then see the plan through to completion.
Another important matter in building is also knowing the source in which it is coming from. Who or what has led you to build out the idea, the dream, the business, the family? Who has reviewed the designs, the plans, the idea, and approved it to the building stage. I understand some people call it a gut feeling; some may say the universe but for me I’m going to reference God in his word here. The bible says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21). It is important to seek God for an understanding on what plans he may have for the idea you are carrying. His instructions will lead to a greater purpose than you may realize. He can take your idea and show you how to prepare strategically so you build smarter instead of harder. He can put the right people around you to also help you build and adjust the plans according to the things that lie ahead in life. And he can provide you wisdom on what is to follow after you finish building. The back side of things that maybe you have not considered.
Lastly, whether you are or are not a Christian, remember to take into consideration the season you are trying to build. When the right season present itself will you be ready for it or are you already in it that season? And be led for the right reasons to build, make sure the foundation you are laying is built to sustain the test of time. Man can promise this, but God can guarantee it. A firm foundation that God lays will last even after you are gone. Therefore, if you have not already done so, seek his will for your plans.
